Memory Triggers make it easier for you to ditch your old expensive habits and switch to cheaper, smarter ones.
What are Memory Triggers?
Memory Triggers are stickers you can place all around your house, work place, in your wallet, in your car, anywhere! Wherever you think it will help to trigger your brain into remembering that you have chosen to improve your habits and your life.
Bad habits gobble up huge quantities of money. They are like big invisible holes in your bank account that let your money trickle away. It is common for people to throw away $100 to $200 each week without even realising it. If you earn $500 cash (after tax) each week, every $100 you waste is an entire day of your life lost. It means you are spending an entire day each week working to pay for that habit instead of relaxing.
A sticker won't change my bad habits!
You are right! Only you can change your habits. The stickers are just 'Memory Triggers'.
Habits are things you do without thinking, so it can be really hard to remember to change them! Therefore, you will need to set up triggers to break your automatic reactions and help you to remember the new habit you are trying to adopt. For example, if you are trying to stop yourself from ordering home delivery for dinner, put a sticker on the telephone to remind you to go to the freezer and grab a meal instead.

There has to be more to it than that!
You are right. Changing your habits is hard. Doing it on your own is impossible for most people. So, as our gift to everyone for Christmas in 2005 we wanted to tilt the odds. We wanted to make it easy for people to change their spending habits, so they could make their New Year resolutions come true. To make this possible, I read every article and book I could find on habit changing theories and turned our yearly calendar into a system that would make it easier for people to change their habits. We called it the 'Habit Changer' and it is free to download from www.simplesavings.com.au/wealthyhabits
If the Habit Changer is free, why do I have to pay for the stickers?
Simple. It costs us money to print the stickers. Making removable stickers is expensive. We have to print them in batches of 10,000, pay for packing and postage. This all adds up!
What do the 'Memory Triggers' look like?
There are eight different Memory Triggers on each sheet.
Stickers 1 and 2: Large and Small Happy Hanna stickers
The Happy Hanna stickers are to help you adopt new, more economical habits. Putting these in obvious places as you go about everyday life will help you remember that by changing your habits, you can have a great life, just like Hanna. They are to remind you that if you adopt cheaper, smarter habits, you will find it easier to keep on top of bills and you will have more brain space for the most important things in life; The people you love.

Stickers 3 and 4: Large and small Sad Sally sticker.
These are to frighten you into remembering to adopt the new habit. If you keep doing what you are doing, you will end up always worrying about money, the way Sad Sally does. Due to Sally's bad money habits her family always come second.

Sticker 5: Debt free! Stress free! Great life!
The Debt Free, Stress Free sticker is to remind yourself why you have taken on these challenges, and to help you keep your final goal in sight.

Stickers 6 and 7: Stop! Think! Save!
These are to help you break your habits and remember what you are supposed to be doing and why.

Sticker 8: Credit Card Guard
is to be placed on your credit or debit card, so you have a physical barrier between you and temptation. It is another way to remind you to Stop, Think and Save, every time you reach for your card.

What are some more ways I can use these stickers?
-
If cigarettes leave a giant hole in your budget: put a Happy Hanna sticker on your lighter or on the door so you see it when you are thinking of going out for another smoke. It will help you to be strong knowing that we are all behind you.
-
If you take a small jar of coffee to work and refill it when it is empty to save money, but find it difficult to keep up or have forgotten why you did it, put a Happy Hanna sticker on your jar to remind yourself how much better your life can be if you adopt good habits.
-
If you have a soft spot for online shopping and/or eBay: place a sticker on your computer (they are removable), so the next time you are about to spend money Sally and Hanna are there to help you.
-
If you shouldn't be using your credit card but you are just not ready to cut it up yet: put Sad Sally and Happy Hanna stickers on top of it (they are removable), so if you go to use it again, you will have to peel Happy Hanna off first and admit to yourself that you are choosing to live like Sad Sally and are prepared to accept the consequences.
-
If you waste money on lunch each day: put Sally and Hanna stickers in your kitchen, so when you make your breakfast they remind you to quickly make yourself some lunch as well. Or stick one on or near the pad where you write your shopping list, so it reminds you to buy ingredients for lunches.
-
If you waste money on take-away: put a sticker somewhere you are likely to see it on Sunday evening to remind you to write a menu plan for the week, then you won't feel the need to waste money on take-away. Or put a Sad Sally sticker on the phone so you will see it when you go to order take-away. It will remind you that you are choosing to be a Sad Sally and that it's no good whinging when your life turns out like hers!
Improving your habits takes a little bit of work now, but will save you so much time and money in the long run.
